Warwick Morehu

Born and raised in Rotorua by my parents, Kipa and Bonita Morehu. I affiliate to many iwi of Te Arawa. Through my dad’s side I affiliate to Ngati Tahu and Ngati Whaoa, from our kuia Whata Henare, daughter of Herapeka.

I schooled at Raukura – Rotorua Boys High School and not long after finishing high school I joined NZ Police – now in my 32nd year. My present substantive role is Area Commander, Taupo (since 2015) – I recently completed 6 months as Acting District Commander, Waikato.

Over many years my wife (Leanne) and I have enjoyed kapahaka competing at National level and travelling internationally to share and promote our indigeneity. Our children have followed this passion and now we watch them compete whilst looking after the 2 mokopuna.

I’ve enjoyed playing high level rugby representing BOP Steamers for over a decade. After rugby I took up pig hunting on the East Coast and diving off Maketu – they are my favourite past time activities.

Like others I am passionate about Te Reo me ona tikanga which is a continuous journey for me.

Outside of Policing, I’ve also served in governance roles, involving Tourism, Forestry, and Horticulture. The common theme that comes through is one of service to the greater good – being part of the Tauhara North No. 2 trust allows me this opportunity to serve the owners and beneficiaries.

Nga mihi rawa atu.
